Rejections and Gripes

EMA is a very small but active and effective local charity sponsoring all denominational Youth at Risk in arts based community projects. EMA has earned letters of appreciation and recommendation from various segments of our community including the VSB. EMA provided Kids Craft corners for fundraising Festivals, Community Ceramics and Art Projects, Performance attendance and outings for Youth at Risk and many other activities.

Funding for the arts on all levels has been slashed. EMA fills out lengthy applications but does not receive funding from government or any corporations. Although we feel we fit the parameters.

We specifically apply to our local art and office supply houses. We are occasionally granted a one time $10 -50 gift card from Staples or Zellers.

The gift card, if any, is always granted with the rational that the company is US or foreign owned and 'gives' at the corporate level in some manner. BUT that policy does not serve the local community, the very market they thrive upon.

We experience flat out rejections from the following big business chains thriving in our local market. Michaels Crafts, located in the heart of our community area has refused us along with Midland home hardware liquidators for even a $3 discount. Disney and the largest theatre productions companies deny even 1 charitable pass to our underprivileged thereby rendering the arts experience 'ELITIST! This policy is unreasonable.

ARTS and MUSIC EMPOWER THE SPIRIT!
We are mandated to empower the spirits and minds of our growing youth!
NOTHING LESS IS ACCEPTABLE.
Our youth are the future of our urban fabric of arts and culture.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT
